We recently welcomed Prof. Dr. Martin Spitzer to our firm for an exciting and highly informative presentation on the topic of class actions, with a particular focus on the recently implemented Directive on collective redress in Austria. After an introduction by Dr. Nikolaus Pitkowitz and a brief overview of the status quo by Peter Machherndl, Prof. Dr. Martin Spitzer critically analysed fundamental questions about the new legal provisions and pointed out both advantages and potential weaknesses for consumers and businesses.

The entertaining presentation, followed by a lively discussion, showed once again that practitioners have no choice but to prepare for the new model - for consumers and businesses alike.
